Wayanad was formed as the 12th district of Kerala carved out of Kozhikode and Kannur districts. The word Wayanad means the Land of Paddy Fields. Known for the numerous indigenous tribal’s in this area, Wayanad is set on the majestic Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 m.

Wayanad has an extensive forest cover, valleys, varied flora and fauna, waterfalls, lakes and historic monuments that makes it a tourist hot spot and one of the most visited districts in Kerala.

Wayanad lies on the border of the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka; the strategic location has also been a boon for the tourism development in Wayanad. Other tourist spots like Ooty, Mysore, Coorg and Bangalore are close to Wayanad.

A Wayanad package offered to the tourist by the hotels, travel agencies and tour operators ensures that they get the best package according to their budget and taste.

Select a Wayanad package where you can pack your walking shoes and trekking gear and head out to the various trekking trails if you love trekking.

Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad at a height ...
... of about 2100 metres and considered to be a trekkers' paradise. There is a lake at the summit which promises spectacular views from the top.

Pakshipaathalam and the Brahmagiri Hills are also favoured trekking destinations. The 6 km trek from Tirunelli takes you through thick jungle. A lot of resorts and hotels can organise the guided treks and can arrange for camp sites and other activities at these destinations.

If history intrigues you, then you have come to the right place. Wayanad packages to Sultan Bathery, a small town in Wayanad that derives its name from the Nizam of Hyderabad, Tipu Sultan will interest you if you are an ardent history student. Tipu built a fort that was known as Sultan's Battery, as he used this place to store ammunition.
Pazhassi Raja, considered the 'Lion of Kerala', was the first to fight a guerrilla war against the British. In the memory of Pazhassi Raja a tomb has been built near Mananthavady in Wayanad.

Believed to be in existence from the New Stone Age, Wayanad is full of archaeological sites as well. Edakkal caves, an ancient rock shelter, 4000 feet up the mountain, are famous for the rock art depicting human and animal carvings.

For the religious, Wayanad packages to the Ananthanatha Swamy Temple, popularly referred to as the Jain Temple, the Tirunelli Temple, Papanasini, Valliyoorkavu Temple, Sita Lava Kusha Temple, Thrissilery Shiva Temple and the Pallikkunnu Church is a must for the religiously fervent.

The nearest airport is Karipur international airport in Kozhikode and the nearest railway station to Wayanad is the Kozhikode railway station.
