The Various Ways To Reach From Hyderabad To Chennai    By: Rashmiranjan Patil
Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai is considered to be one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities. Chennai is famous for its temples and churches that are considered to be the fine examples of architecture and craftsmanship. Chennai has one of the best beaches in the country, the longest beach - the Marina beach being one of them. Situated in the Deccan Plateau, Hyderabad is known as the 'City of Pearls'. The name 'Hyderabad' had its origins in an affair between the ruler Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah and a local Hindu courtesan named Bhagmati. The latter converted to Islam and assumed the name of ‘Hyder Mahal'. She married the ruler and he named the city after Hyder Mahal. Hyderabad lies at a distance of 632 km from Chennai. The shortest route to reach Chennai from Hyderabad is following the coast road or the National Highway 5. It takes about 10 hours to reach from Hyderabad to Chennai along the NH 5. If taking the NH 5, one gets to pass through some of the major port towns like Nalgonda, Ongole, Nellore, finally terminating in Chennai. Alternately one can also take the NH 40 from Hyderabad to Chennai which passes through towns like Tirupati. Both Chennai and Hyderabad have airports. The cities are well connected by flights. Hyderabad Airport connects flights like Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Go Air and Indigo to Chennai. These are economical as well as affordable and reach Chennai within an hour. There are several trains that connect the two cities of Hyderabad and Chennai. Among the daily trains running from Hyderabad to Chennai are the Chennai Hyderabad Express (No. 12504), Chennai Hyderabad Charminar Express (No. 12760), Hyderabad Express (No. 12604), and Kacheguda Express (No. 17652) among others. The trains take about 12 hours to 13 hours to travel from Hyderabad to Chennai. The charges for these trains are around Rs. 300/- for a sleeper berth and Rs. 750 for an AC berth. Tickets are available from IRCTC or from across the reservation counters. Regular bus services are available from Hyderabad to Chennai. The buses charge a fare ranging from Rs. 800 to Rs. 1500. There are frequent services private buses and Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation buses with luxury facilities connecting the two cities. These buses have AC and Semi-sleeper facilities and they charge around Rs. 320/- to Rs. 450/-. Taxi services are also available from Hyderabad to Chennai and back. The taxi cabs charge a fare ranging from Rs.15 to Rs. 30 per kilometre depending on the type of vehicle the travellers prefer to hire. Taxis charge Rs. 12,400/- for four people and for seven people it costs Rs. 17,200/- for a round trip. Delhi has numerous monuments, archaeological structures and shrines to attract travellers. Old monuments like Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Purana Qila and Jama Masjid stand out as the major attractions in the city. Among the tourist destinations in Delhi include India Gate, Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi), Birla Mandir, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Rajpath, Humayun's Tomb, Lotus Temple, ISKCON Temple, Jantar Mantar, National Museum, International Dolls Museum, National Zoological Park, National Railway Museum, Teen Murti Bhavan, Lodhi Garden and Safdarjung's Tomb. The distance from Delhi to Patiala is approximately 250 km. Patiala is one of the erstwhile princely cities of Punjab located in its south-eastern region. The city was founded by Baba Ala Singh. The city is also famous for being the home of Hindustani classical music, known by the name of Patiala Gharana. Patiala is walled with some popular gateways like Darshani Gate, Lahouri Gate, Nabha Gate and Samana Gate. Patiala is also a popular tourist destination and offers plenty of places to visit like Qila Mubarak Complex, Qila Androon, Rang Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Ran-Baas, Darbar Hall (Divan Khana), Jalau Khana and Sard Khana. Patiala is well connected with Delhi by rail and road. Patiala does not have an airport. The city does not lie on the trunk line. But there are two daily direct trains from Delhi to Patiala. They are Dadar-Amritsar Express (No.11057) and Delhi-Bhatinda Express (No.14731). The first train starts from Delhi at 4.30 in the morning and reaches the destination six hours later at 10.38 a.m. The second train is in the afternoon which takes only a little more than five hours. Alternatively, the passengers can travel to Chandigarh, which is situated 60 km from Patiala, by train and then go to Patiala by road (bus or taxi). This is a longer route and takes more time besides being expensive. The better option is to travel by road. There are state transport and private buses to travel from Delhi to Patiala. The bus fare ranges from Rs.150 to Rs.400 depending on the type of bus. The bus takes about four hours and 30 minutes to travel from Delhi to Patiala. Travel by car is also popular in this route. The cabs charge a fare ranging from Rs.15 to Rs.30 per kilometre depending on the type of vehicle the travellers hire. The taxi car takes about four hours to reach Patiala from Delhi. The taxis are suitable for travel for families and senior citizens. The road route passes through NH1, NH22 and NH44. The main places in the road route (with distance from Delhi - ISBT- in brackets) are Sonepat (51 km), Samalkha (83 km), Karnal (137 km), Thanesar (178 km) and Patiala (250 km).
