Social work addresses the barriers, inequities and injustices that exist in society. It focuses on developing human potential as well as fulfilling human needs. Its mission is to help people to prevent dysfunction, develop their full potential and enrich their lives.
Social work is not just about helping the under-privileged and doing good deeds. Over a period of time, it has evolved into a profession. With issues of disability, drug misuse, poverty, mental ill health, problems associated with aging etc. rising constantly, it has become a vital need of our society today.
Social work has emerged as one of the most demanding profession in India in the last few decades. Both Government and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) have a lot to offer if you are willing to work hard and in any given conditions. In this regard, the awareness among international organizations is extensive too. With Government, Non-Government Organizations and international organizations, the number of opportunities in social work has seen unprecedented growth. Social workers are now being hired by industrial and commercial units too. A degree or diploma in social work is creating a large number opportunities in various sectors for the millions of Indian youth.
One can find professional social work India activists in every facet of community life; such as in orphanages, hospitals, prisons, old age homes, schools, mental health clinics, corporations and in numerous private and public agencies that provide individuals and families in need. They counsel communities, families and individuals to cope more effectively with the stresses of everyday life thereby preventing crisis.
As an Indian, you’re bound to arrive at no easy or direct answers, the moment you start thinking about all the problems facing this country and seeking solutions to those problems. Rants and complaints get more than enough fodder about the Government, poverty, corruption, education system, literacy, migration, discrimination etc by the daily ordeals and challenges in and around your environment.
