Mountain Town No Longer On The Derby Trail
  By: lee lane-edgar
After a concrete performance last year placing three out of three races next to some of the stiff competitors Uncle Mo, To Honor, Serve and the likes, Mountain Town has disappointingly been shelved for the season. A fine colt with remarkably impressive pedigree, he has been said to get impulsive on the circuits.(read

What Is Next For Soldat?
  By: lee lane-edgar
Soldat has just finished fifth in Florida Derby almost endangering his contention for the Kentucky Derby this season. After having faired not well in his last race, expectations are dwindling. Since history has predicted winners; those who ran their prior race either winning it or finishing second, a 5th place beaten by 10 lengths looks unlikely. But again, there have been exceptions like Big Brown, who bounced back as a winner after a couple of disappointing performances. Nothing is predictable.(read

Secretariat's Track Record Not In Jeopardy This Year
  By: lee lane-edgar
Churchill Downs will have the Secretariat's records intact and probably untouched, courtesy the poor performances by all the top contenders, so much that Uncle Mo has already been pulled out of the race and The Factor seems to be the last horse standing with some chances.(read

The Top 10 Contenders List (6 Through 10) As Of April 18th 2011
  By: lee lane-edgar
Here's the part 2 of the scintillating list of contenders for the Bid Red race on may 7th. On the post fifth positions, we have To Honor and Serve running from the 6th position , extremely talented, he might just have a shot. Jaycito running 7th was outrun by Premier and has synthetic surface experience, how he performs at the Kentucky dirt will be a mystery. Shackleford running 8th was quite a competition to Dialed In during the Florida derby, if continued in the upward graph; we have a lot to expect from this sprinter. Another persistent pair Animal Kingdom and Sway Away compete from the 9th and 10th positions.(read

Brilliant Speed Rallies From Last To First To Upset The Blue Grass Stakes
  By: lee lane-edgar
Looks like all races are getting as unpredictable as destiny would like them to be. Keeneland's Blue Grass Stakes experienced the incredible win of Brilliant Speed, squeezing himself all the way to the top from the last. Closing the first place by just a nose, Twinspired and King Congie closed second and third respectively. Even the favorites on bidders' lists went unnoticed as these 19-1, 24-1 and 13-1 odds went for the win. Blue Grass Stakes however, is run on polytrack and the results could be ignored owing to the drastic difference from the natural dirt. Anticipate any surprises too?(read

Triple Crown Flashback: Sunday Silence And Easy Goer - The Last Great Horseracing Rivalry
  By: lee lane-edgar
Race horses depict rivalry extremely gracefully, the last one seen and adored was Sunday Silence and Easy Goer only in 1989 after the memorable Affirmed and Alydar battle for supremacy late back in 1978. Where Sunday Silence was a black west coast Californian, Easy Goer was a delicate chestnut east coast New Yorker. Winning three out of four, the east coast gave a relentless struggle for victory closing the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and the Breeder's Cup in favor and giving in when his arch-rival glided to first position at Belmont. Let's hope Uncle Mo and The Factor strike a similar spark allowing truck loads of action at the tracks this season.(read

Triple Crown Flashback: Smarty Jones
  By: lee lane-edgar
Smarty Jones' emergence as an undefeated colt won him immediate accolades and expectations for the Kentucky Derby contention. An instant hit, Smarty took over the Count Fleet at Aqueduct followed by the Southwest Stakes, the Rebel and the Arkansas Derby at Oakland Lawns and headed untouched to the Run for the Roses. Having won the Kentucky Derby too, he succeeded Seattle Slew in the undefeated patrol followed by a thrashing 118 Beyer Speed Figure and another victory at Preakness. However Smarty lost the Belmont to a maturer 1-1/2 mile runner Birdstone and left behind an incomplete quest for Triple Crown but definitely an impressive one.(read

Triple Crown Flashback Man O' War Could Have Been The Second Triple Crown Winner
  By: lee lane-edgar
f in 1920 the Triple Crown had been realized as the holy grail of racing, Man o' War, ranked 1 in Blood Horse top 100 U.S listings, would already be the Big Red much before the title adorned the unforgettable Secretariat and probably as invincible as any other horse racing history will ever get to witness.(read
