It seems ever so, that Mother''s day is a walk in the park as far as gifts are concerned and yet Father''s day remains a present buying nightmare. The likely answer is that Mother''s day has been around for years and has acquired a highly useful set of gift classics - flowers, chocolates, perfume - that are accessible to the most hopeless of gift buyers. As far as Father''s day is concerned, however, there are no such safety nets available.

Whilst flowers, chocolates and perfume may be traditional and predictable, they are also, usually, very much appreciated. When the shops start filling their shelves with Father''s day gift ideas, the choice is not so clear. The range is huge and there are no classics of which to speak. They do not help to narrow the field at all.

Fear not. Help is at hand. For those of you who are dreading the arrival of Father''s Day this year, here we have a range of helpful solutions and starting points to set those creative, gift-buying juices flowing.

Begin by asking the right questions. See what progress your dad has been making with his favourite hobbies recently. Does he need ...
... a new lens for his best camera? A new gadget in the kitchen? A new record for his vinyl collection, perhaps? Personal, thoughtful gifts like these are almost always a hit, providing you do your background checks.

If you''re not convinced by the whole idea of having a small present, wrapped up in fancy paper with a card selotaped to the side, then why not plan a special day instead? If there''s something that your dad has talked about doing all his life, but has yet to find the right time, then you could use the opportunity to give him a helping hand by planning it out for him.

If you''re not convinced by your own organisational skills, on the other hand, try looking out for a ''gift experience'' package, instead.

There are instances when time is the greatest gift of all. If you don''t get to see your dad very often, if you live far away or have a very time consuming job, then you could simply make the effort to have a whole day spending some much missed quality time together. Whether you go fishing, out to eat, on a day trip or simply spend the day chilling out together at home, this could be the greatest Father''s Day gesture of all.

For further ideas shop around online and use the web to form the inspiration behind your perfect Father''s day present this year. Schamburek is the author of this article, they like writing about fathers day gifts. To find out more visit the Not on The High Street website.
