Why Ethnic Fashion Will Never Die!
The three primary elements required by a human for his/her survival is Food, Shelter and Clothing. Human beings have successfully remoulded the concept of all three. Clothing has been the most radically evolved element of the lot. Skip a few thousand years and the necessity of clothing transformed into the statement that is Fashion. As the world progressed through the timeline, segregation and partitions created society, culture, diversity which inevitably fuelled the fashion engine. With the advent of weaving, dyeing and creativity; people started having epiphanies to bring together the three to creating ethnicity in fashion.
Ever since trade and travel were innovated, fashion started to spread throughout the world. Fashion started speaking ethnicity, especially in the Eastern side of the world. The portrayal of our heritage and mores into what we wear symbolises the pride we have in our culture. This ideology kept ethnic fashion in orbit and away from extinction. India, being the centre of arts and crafts saw the explosion of ethnic fashion because the more complicated and intricate designs received the popularity ...
... it acquired. Back in the day, artisans and designers used block printing and a free hand to achieve perfection whereas machines have taken over in the current age.
The demand for ethnic wear and fashion is at an all-time high especially since the turn of the millennium as people from different regions, traditions and ethnicity are always gobsmacked by the beauty as they are never exposed to it. With the merger of modernity with history, designers were able to bring the best of both worlds. Bringing the art of culture, sewing it up without imperfection on a canvas of the future gifts us with an impeccable fusion of contemporary ethnic fashion. The masses always aim to be trendy and up-to-date with fashion but are reluctant to let go of their heritage influenced clothing style. The designers of the present have now found a market in it and made the most of it.
Every top fashioner in the country has a line dedicated to ethnic wear alone, symbolising the sheer gravity of it. Adding to the testaments, the subcontinent relates most to the ethnic wear owing to its rich traditions and iterations born within. The youngsters these days are more keen on getting their hands on the fusion of the two worlds rather than choosing one. This trend is catching on like a wildfire among all age groups and both genders as well. So it's no surprise that ethnic wear, as old has history itself, survives today and will certainly play the role of a survivor for years to come. Such is the power of fashion fuelled by culture!
