How To Insert Contact Lenses

Step 1: Wash your hands.

Before inserting contact lenses, it is very important to wash your hands. This will decrease the likelihood of eye infections and/or irritation. Also, make sure that all soap residue is completely rinsed off.

Step 2: Rinse the lens.

Remove the lens from the storage case and apply a few drops of multipurpose solution or saline solution. This is to remove any residual debris from the lens.

Step 3: Place the contact lens on the index finger of your dominant hand (hand you write with our use most often).

When placing the lens on the index finger, it should be evenly placed on the center of the finger pad with all sides of the lens facing upwards. To make sure that the lens is not inside out, view it from the side. It should form a ?u?.

Step 4: Open the eye with the middle fingers of both hands.

Pull the lower lid down with the middle finger of the dominant hand (same hand that has the contact lens on the index finger). Pull the upper lid up using the middle finger of the non-dominant hand.

Step 5: Place the contact lens in your eye.

... looking upward and keeping the eye as wide as possible, gently place the lens in the eye. Once it is on the eye, slide it down towards the colored part of the eye. Slowly take the index finger away from the contact, look down, and close your eye. This should position the lens properly. If not, roll the eye around a few times for proper placement.
