The popularity of Texas Hold''em poker has gone through the roof in recent years. It''s combination of skill, luck and daring in a simple sequence of play. It''s not all about the Internet either, while you can play poker online at websites like Real Deal poker, it''s a great social game too. If you''re a rookie to poker, then picking it up isn''t so hard. Once you''ve learned the order of play, then the key to the game is learning the various hands and the likelihood of your opponents having them on the table. If you want to pick them up, then this guide could help you out.

There are ten different hands in Texas Hold''em poker, with Royal Flush being the best and High Card being the worst.

Royal Flush ? The top poker hand. If you have a Royal Flush then you''ll be unbeatable at the table! It''s a combination of 10, the three face cards and an Ace of the same suit.

Flush ? A straight with five cards of the same suit (excluding Royal Flush). Example: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 of clubs.

Four of a Kind ? Four cards of the same value followed by a ''kicker'' or fifth card. The ranking of the hand all depends on ...
... the kicker, so four 6s and a King up against four 7s and a Queen would win if there were two Four of a Kinds around the table.

Full House ? Three cards of the same value with another two cards of the same value. Three Aces and two Kings (known as Aces full of Kings) is the best Full House possible.

Flush ? Five cards of the same suit. These don''t have to be consecutive. The highest ranked card in the flush determines the value, so getting an Ace would be the highest flush.

Straight ? Five cards in sequence of different suits. Aces can be either high or low cards. A straight from 10 to Ace of different suites is the highest possible straight.

Three of a Kind ? Three out of the five cards need to be of the same value. The highest three of a kind possible is three Aces, a King and a Queen.

Two Pair ? Two pairs of cards of the same rank. For example: Queen-Queen, 10-10 and a 9 kicker.

One Pair ? A pair of two cards of the same rank in any hand, such as Queen-Queen, 10, 8, 3.

High Card ? Any hand that is not mentioned above. Whatever is the highest card is put forward.
