What To Eat after A Root Canal?

Root canal therapy is done to save a badly infected or severely decayed tooth. In this treatment, your dentist will remove the infected pulp of the teeth and remove its insides before sealing it up. And just like all kinds of dental or medical procedures, the patient needs to go through several steps and follow certain instructions to ensure that the whole treatment is a success. One very important aspect is knowing what you can eat and drink.
Following your root canal treatment, you will find that your mouth feels numb from the anesthetic your dentist used. This sensation will return to normal after a few hours. Until it does, you have to be careful with what you eat and drink so you do not end up injuring yourself accidentally. For one, you should avoid consuming anything hot, as well as any sticky, crunchy or hard food items. Also, avoid chewing on the treated side. Try to limit your intake to soft, slippery and lukewarm or cool food and beverages.
A root canal treatment is mostly carried out over two or three visits to the dentist. In between these appointments, the treated tooth will be packed with temporary ...
... filling material. Take note that this filling material is not designed to endure heavy forces. Therefore, ensure that you do not put extreme pressure on this area so you do not break or chip the filling. If you do damage your filling, get it replaced or repaired as soon as possible to prevent bacteria from getting into the tooth and re-infecting it.
Be aware that your treated tooth might feel a bit tender or sore for a few days after you have completed all your root canal therapy sessions. Rest assured that this is a normal response and is a crucial part of the healing process of your body. But if you find that the discomfort is too much for you to bear, you can take over-the-counter painkillers with the approval of your health provider. You can also ask for a prescribed medication from your dentist.
Before, during and after your root canal therapy, it is important that you maintain good oral hygiene. This will help make the treatment a success, and prevent further decay. If you think that you need this treatment and want to learn more about root canal therapy, talk to your dentist. Get yourself properly examined and assessed to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. And if you are, do not forget the tips above.
