There are plenty of adhesives on the market, comprising different formulations and many of which are extremely specialized, as they have very specific uses.



A water-based adhesive has its own niche, acting as the glue in the construction sector and in packaging. Its strength means it can also be used in the automobile industry among others making it indispensable in today's economy.

It has been available since the 1970s and uses rubber compounds as the base material along with other additives. This type of adhesive can be either water soluble or water dispersible.

The water soluble adhesives include the so-called animal glues while the water dispersed range includes those based on natural rubber lattices, synthetic rubber lattices and post-formed rubber lattices.

Other than packaging, it has its uses in wood bonding, bonding of floor and wall types and panel lamination. All these require a a href="http://www.action-adhesives.ie/ target="_blanks">glue of extra strength, a criterion other adhesives cannot always fulfill.



The water is its strength as water acts as the carrier. This means with the adhesive particles suspended in the water, this leads to extra thickness or viscosity which allows it to be compatible with materials of various thicknesses.



Types of such adhesives are vegetable glue, resin cement and latex cement. Animal and protein substances also contribute to making such adhesives.



One huge advantage with this type of adhesive is that it does not have any solvents. This means it can be used safely in relatively confined quarters such as a classroom or in the house without having people encounter dizzy spells or anything of the sort which can be a problem with glue which contains a heavy amount of solvent. In a world which is turning Green, the lack of solvents is definitely a point in its favor.
