Error Accessing And Deleting Messages In Pst After Running Scanpst
Outlook Scanpst.exe file is a program file that starts PST repair utility called Inbox Repair Tool when accessed. Though not all, but the Scanpst tool can fix several PST corruption problems by analyzing the structure of file. When the corruption is high or the tool fails to read the file structure, odds are that tool may ironically introduce more problems instead of repairing it properly. That's the reason it is recommended to backup your PST before running this repair utility.
Scanpst can fail or add several new vulnerabilities to an affected PST and the following discussion supports this. Consider an instance when you observe a corrupted Outlook PST. As suggested, you run Outlook Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe). It reports successful repair, but when you use the seemingly repaired PST, it presents any of the below symptoms:
(1) When you attempt to open the file with Outlook, it reads the following error message:
You do not have permission required to access the file c:\path_name.
(2) You try to delete an e-mail message, but cannot ...
... do so and receive the below mentioned error message:
Errors have been detected in the file xxxx.pst.
Cause
Some possible reasons of the above behavior to exhibit are:
(1) The PST is set to read-only.
(2) Scanpst.exe has been unable to repair the corrupted PST.
Solution
To deal with such problems, you need to implement the following measures:
(1) Delete the corrupted PST provided you have a backup. Create a new PST and import the data.
(2) Use a third-party PST repair application.
It's a good practice to backup the PST before running any repair utility, Scanpst or a commercial application, to ensure the data stability after irrecoverable crashes that these utilities can bring.
The commercial PST file repair applications are exclusively built to run powerful algorithms to Scan pst. With their read-only design, these software are safe to use. Also, the PST recovery software are easy to implement for the reason that they usually come with an interactive and user-friendly design.
