Structural Engineering is a sub-division of civil engineering in which structural engineers are trained to understand, predict, and calculate the stability, strength and rigidity of built structures for buildings and non-building structures, to develop designs and integrate their design with that of other designers, and to supervise construction of projects on site.

Structural engineers analyze, design, plan, and research structural components and structural systems to achieve design goals and ensure the safety and comfort of users or occupants. Their work takes account mainly of safety, technical, economic and environmental concerns, but they may also consider aesthetic and social factors.

They design a building’s underlying strength and get involved in creating record- breaking, beautiful, useful and sometimes just cool structures. They design buildings& bridgesthat last for centuries, so that their structures are used and enjoyed by thousands of people long after they’ve gone. Hence, structural engineering courses train students about practical art and philosophy of structural design.

With an ...
... objective to meet the challenges and requirement of this area, CEPT established the School of Building Science and Technology (SBST) in 1982 that focuses on the issues concerning Construction, Design & Management of Human Habitat. This is now under Faculty of Technology.

Structural engineering in design course offered by CEPT provides students with an insight into investigation, assessment and strengthening of the damaged structures. The program also engages the students into the design of ongoing important industrial structures such as chimneys, silos, water tanks, bridges and ports.Structural engineering is a creative profession that makes a significant contribution to infrastructure and industry, as well as residential and recreational developments.

Structural engineers generally work in teams and look at the way a structure is to be built. They ensure buildings are strong enough to withstand natural forces and loads imposed by the nature of its use. Through research and the testing of both form and material, new solutions are developed which promote safer, more environmentally friendly buildings and structures.Structural engineers commonly work with architects, builders, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineers to ensure that the foundation of the structures constructed are safe and capable of fulfilling their intended function. They also make sure structures use appropriate materials efficiently.

The path to the future of the structural engineering profession includes defining the vision forthe future, understanding the current practices and challenges, and identifying the way forward to bridge the gap. The challenge lies in finding a way to leverage the current conditions to build a successful future in the profession of Structural Engineering.

CEPT provides the right opportunity and a wider exposure to architecture, planning, construction, design and management of human habitats. It aims to develop free spirited individuals with a reflective outlook. To know more or in case of any queries, kindly reach us at http://admissions.cept.ac.in/contact.
