Cost Cutting Wedding Tips
According to My Wedding Workbook, 62.3% of brides'' wedding plans have been affected by the recession. Spare finances are in short supply as we embrace a new decade, so extravagant wedding plans are a thing of the past.
They surveyed 13,000 brides and found that 75% are planning to incorporate hand-made and do-it-yourself items into their weddings this year. Add the proliferation of hand-me-down wedding dresses and low-key ceremonies, and weddings are starting to become more personal and understated.
At 67.1%, invitations are the most popular hand-made wedding item. This was closely followed by hand-made reception table place settings at 65.8%. Both of which are easy to make but add a special character to the wedding.
Some brides are taking craftsmanship, or ''craftwomanship'', to the next level as 6.6% plan to make their own wedding dress and 4% will even make their bridesmaids'' dresses.
An area for cutting back that won''t affect the guests is the honeymoon budget. Almost 60% of brides said they are planning to curb their honeymoon plans to something less tropical and more wallet friendly. Continuing ...
... with the ''staycation'' trend of summer 2009, many newlyweds are planning to have their post-wedding holiday on home soil.
Flowers are a big part of any wedding, but it is also an area that can be scaled back through clever flower choices and placement.
Around 50% of brides will be arranging their own flowers and almost 60% state that this is their biggest area of cutback. So this year it may be a good idea to give flowers as wedding gifts. Guests could group together to buy wedding flower bouquets for the ceremony or reception instead of conforming to traditional present ideas such as a dinner service or cutlery.
So despite the recession, weddings are going ahead albeit on a scaled back level. The quality however is still there as more personal effort and care are being put in by both brides and guests meaning the big day is more about the love between the bride and groom and less about an extravagant party.
The number of weddings therefore is not decreasing as a result of the recession. They may be taking place on a very different scale but now more personal effort and care are being put in by both brides and guests meaning the big day is more about the love between the bride and groom and less about the day itself.
