Steps To Enable Seo Urls In Opencart Website

Well, it's good that you have Opencart website development working for you but having an e-commerce website is not sufficient, you must make sure that it is search engine friendly. In fact, it would not be wrong to claim that SEO should be the starting point while you are creating your online portal.
You don’t need a thorough knowledge about it,if you know a bit about SEO and are technology friendly, you would know that the links are the most important factor in influencing the website ranking.
The best part about Opencart is that it supports SEO friendly URLs but you need to enable it as they are not enabled by default. This guide will take you through the various steps in enabling SEO URLs in Opencart website.
Enable SEO URLs- The first step is to go to the admin panel and then move to System followed by Setting and finally moving to Server (System>Setting>Server). Then you will see the use SEO URLs field which needs to be checked YES.

However, you may notice that if you already have the Apache server, then you need to change htaccess.txt to .htaccess.
If you are on NGINX Server then you need to follow the following instructions
If you are working on NGINX servers then enabling of SEO URLs becomes a bit tricky. You need to make some server configuration.
How to Configure the SEO URLs on the NGINX server-
Go to the admin panel and select Catalogue and then Products. Edit the product and move to Data tab and further select the SEO URL option mentioned in the window.
Important Note: Make sure that the SEO URL that you choose is unique and is not duplicate, Opencart doesn’t have the duplicate checker, and this might result in inaccessible products in case you enter duplicate URL.
Your Opencart categories have custom SEO URLs, it is the same as the products, all you need to do is go to Catalogue and then categories, and then you have to go to the Data tab where you find SEO URL field to customise.
Similar steps have to be applied for all the information page. Go to the Catalogue>Information, choose the page you want to edit, go to the Data tab and find the SEO URL field.
