Technologies are meant to make our life comfortable but the excessive use of such technologies is harming the environment to the extreme through polluting the surroundings. Industries and the waste it generates is the main reason of pollution. They dump their waste anywhere crazily and leave the public drainage system contaminated with a lot of pollutants. A large number of industries are dealing with dangerous chemicals and poisonous substances, they dump down the waste left after the process into the public drains causing many diseases and degrading the environment harshly.

Before disposing off the waste, it is essential to treat it first and remove all the particles that contaminate the system and disturb the eco balance. Sewage treatment plants are designed for this purpose which is the process of removing contaminants from the waste water, and make it suitable for repurposing it for different activities. It includes physical, chemical, and biological processes to eliminate all the organic and inorganic matters effectively.

The treatment of sewage water is conducted in three various processes namely primary, ...
... secondary, and tertiary. From filtering out the large particles to chlorination of the well-treated water, the plant is designed to perform all the steps effectively. All three processes include treating the various solid large particles to microorganisms for making it safe for disposing off in public drains.

Primary Treatment - It consists holding the large solid matters of the sewage waste water in a quiescent basin where the entire heavy matters settle down to the bottom in a certain time while the light matters like oil, grease and other lighter particles float to the surface. Both are removed and the remaining water is passed on to the next treatment process.
Secondary Treatment - At the second process of sewage water treatment plant, the suspended and dissolved biological matters get removed. This process is performed specially with the help of indigenous water-borne microorganisms to break down the little particles. It might also require separation process to remove these microbes from the treated water before trashing it into the drains or to the next process.
Tertiary Treatment - The final process of the treatment involves a further aerobic stage along with oxygen depletion stage to reduce the presence of nitrogen and phosphorous. It also includes a disinfectant process using the UV light, chlorination, or ozone treatment. This is helpful at removing bacteria and viruses effectively.

After all these processes, the waste water is dumped finally into the water bodies or drains with almost no chances of severe diseases.
