Tacos- A Long Mexican Story Landing On The American Platter
Did you know the tacos first existed in the Mexican food culture? It is straight away adopted from the kitchens of the silver miners in Mexico. The Americans of Southwest part of the continent reinvented the food and today it seems to serve the Anglo palate too well. The origin of this world famous food may raise your eyebrow. Well this delicious snack has its roots in the meals served to Mexican locals. Taco was then referred to a thin piece of paper which was used to wrap gunpowder used to tap mines in order to access ores. This amazing technique was soon adopted in the kitchen and there evolved the chicken taco which too has a resemblance with the original gunpowder stuffed cousin. the chicken taco wrapped around a really hot stuffing made from chicken and a spicy sauce which almost burst out in flavors inside the mouth like that of a dynamite.
The taquerias belonged to the working class Mexican society. Since the city came under spotlight with the light industry prospering too well in the region, women from this working class experimented with their culinary skills. People migrated from different ...
... regions to settle in Mexico and a potpourri of flavors boiled, giving rise to the famous taco. In the earlier years, the people in US would consider Mexican food as low class cuisine. The edibles were treated like street food. Tacos was linked with women who were referred to as Chili Queens. These street vendors would earn a living by selling such snacks and other edibles at carnivals. The food sold at San Antonio were super-hot, such that people would describe having them like serpents. The highly spicy food somehow became too appealing for the taste buds. A lot of people slowly started to adopt the Mexican cuisine culture and today most of the dishes comprising American or US food root back in Mexico. Tacos have become a hot favorite among Americans such that you can now find tacos to be as popular as steaks sold in American restaurants in London. Like the hamburger and steaks, tacos too have come into mainstream American cuisines.
