Cave Tours In Mellorca

About and hour and a half from Palma on the east coast of Mallorca is the town of Porto Cristo where you can easily access the Cuevas del Drach (Caves of the Dragon) and Cuevas dels Hams (Caves of the hooks). Both systems are augmented with lights and music to heighten your experience and highlight the beauty. North of these you will find the Cuevas de Arta. And finally near the Tramuntana mountains you can visit the Coves De Comparta.
The Cuevas del Drach, the most popular cave system on the island, features four chambers: Black Cave, White Cave, Cave of Luis Salvador, and Cave of the French. The hour long tour includes a concert on the underground Lake Martel performed by musicians on boats. You may add a boat ride to your tour if you choose. If you go early in the day you will avoid the worst of the crowds and leave time to visit the Cuevas dels Hams in the afternoon. Unfortunately, photography is not permitted in the Cuevas del Drach.
The Cuevas dels Hams cave system was discovered in 1905 by Pedro Caldentey who went on to create the first artistic light display to enhance to views inside the caves. ...
... ?Hams? refers to hook shaped formations that abound in the caves. Features on the tour include areas with names like the Sea of Venice, Milton''s Lost Paradise, and Fairy Cemetery. Your tour will include a Mozart concert and photography without flash is permitted.
On the northeast coast of Mallorca near the village of Capdepera the ocean has carved out a little spot of, not heaven, but hell. The Cuevas de Arta cave system has provided sanctuary to pirates and persecuted island inhabitants, and drawn tourists since the 19th century when luminaries like Jules Verne, Alexander Dumas and Sarah Bernhardt visited the caves. Featuring a Hell cavern with areas named from Dante''s Inferno, these caves draw fewer crowds than those to the south, so the lines for the tours are shorter. If you add a boat ride to your tour you can enter the majestic Cuevas de Arta from the sea.
The Coves de Camparta, an inland cave system discovered in 1945, is located near the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca and also features an underground lake. About a 40 minute drive roughly north of Palma, you will find these caves are less popular and therefore less crowded than the caves on the east coast, though they are every bit as spectacular. Stunning formations rise eerily above you presenting breathtaking views in chambers with names like: Sala de la Palmera (the Palm Tree Chamber), Castillo Encantado (Enchanted Castle), and Cascada Sonora (Musical Waterfall). Photography is not permitted in the Coves de Camparta.
With so much to do on Mallorca, it is fortunate one can simply hire a car and get around on your own. The numerous cave systems offer a pleasant contrast to sunny days on the beach and will provide relief for tourists who weren''t as liberal with the sunscreen as they should have been. Bonny Kominek is very fond of the Balearic islands and has been going to Mallorca for years. Getting car hire Mallorca is essntial, you can get cheap car hire Mallorca from Ritmocars.co.uk
