No one can deny that our appliances and electric devices have improved our lives over the years. In fact, we have become dependent on them to perform our functions and beyond, even our comfort when the hot summer sun hits Calgary. Aside from checking Homestars to find the most qualified residential electrician having a power surge protector at home to protect our gadgets, we listed a few more ways and hacks on how to keep them in mint condition as long as possible.

#1 Laundry Machine and Dryer
When washing your clothes, make sure you do not exceed your machine's maximum capacity, especially with thick jeans and blankets. You don't need to ask an electrician to tell you to divide your wash load into a couple of batches or more to avoid putting too much strain on your machine's motor.

It's all right to reach your appliance's capacity, going way too much under or above its capacity can hurt the engine. Divide the load according to color and weight. Lighter clothes tend to dry faster than heavier ones so make sure you remember this when you segregate your laundry. Clean your washing machine and dryer ...
... once a month, inside out to make sure you don't leave residue and debris behind. When not in use, unplug these appliances.

#2 Fridge And Freezer
Knowing that Calgary can be hot and dry all year, you would want to keep your refrigerator and freezers working the longest time possible. Make sure you defrost these appliances at least once a year, and every time you notice a quarter inch of ice has formed on its interior walls. Keep the inside of your fridge clean from food spills and stains and sealed tight when closed. Also don't forget to clean the exterior, including the rubber gasket and condenser coil brush according to the manufacturer's instructions.

#3 HVAC
You wouldn't need a Calgary electrician or an HVAC technician to clean your electrician fans at least once every month. Thoroughly remove the dirt and debris from the fins using water and some soap. If you noticed any dents or misalignments on these fins, carefully use a knife to straighten them out. For other HVAC equipment, you can purchase a no-rinse coil cleaning foam from your favorite local store. For your drain lines, you can put a cup of chlorine bleach followed by a gallon of water to keep it clean and mold-free.

While preventive maintenance and care are essential to keeping your appliances up and running as long as time allows, you would also have to make sure that they are still energy-efficient. Your old sturdy devices, hopefully, do not cost you more in the long term (on monthly energy bills paid to electrical companies Calgary employs) versus the price of a new appliance or device. You can seek the help of your trusted electricians on how to make your entire electrical systems, including your appliances energy-efficient and safe for the years to come.
