There is a vast choice of high street brand names sat alongside independent shops selling everything from bric a brac to designer clothing. There are a few useful shopping centres for shopaholics to browse through and customers can expect to find a wide range of clothing, food and jewellery as well as electronic goods. Markets are still commonplace around the city streets and they are often a hive of activity with stalls filled with various goodies.

The Grand Arcade is a popular centre and it is housed within an interesting old building to combine Cambridge's heritage with the most up to date fashions and stores. Well known brands such as Topshop and River Island sit among funky designer stores such as Ted Baker, Swarovski and The White Company and a large John Lewis store is located at the top end of the centre. As well as shops, visitors to the Grand Arcade can enjoy sitting in a café or grabbing a bite to eat in a restaurant or fast food joint.

The Grafton is another hugely popular shopping centre and a wide range of high street shops are mixed in with cheap shoe shops like Barratts, useful stores like ...
... Boots and places to eat and drink such as Burger King and Bella Italia. There is even a place to drop your children off for a few hours while you enjoy shopping child-free!

The Beehive Centre and The Lion Yard Shopping Centre are both home to a good selection of shops but are smaller in their offerings than The Grafton and the apple of Cambridge's eye; The Grand Arcade. Clothes shops stand between sports stores and jewellers and although there are no designer names based here there are many well known companies including HMV, H Samuels, ELC and Body Shop. Opposite The Lion Yard Shopping Centre is a large library and visitors to the shops often mix their trip in with a trip to the library.

The Beehive Centre is a small version of a retail park as it boasts many electrical stores, a large Asda supermarket and home furnishings shops. On Newmarket Road, shoppers looking for more retail therapy can find the Cambridge Retail Park, which has tens of electrical shops, DIY outlets, warehouses and furniture shops.

If you want to steer clear of the somewhat monotonous US-style centres and soak up some of the city's culture as you wander through the shops then take a walk around the city streets. There are various shops found all through Cambridge with local post offices and small convenience stores readily available. There are also many charity shops on the streets and these can be home to some hidden gems and bargains, with proceeds going to good causes. The main branch of Marks & Spencers can also be found in the heart of the city away from all of the centres and parks.

In order to really soak up some authentic sights and attractions during a shopping trip in Cambridge, visitors can browse through the markets that are held on various days in various locations around the city. There are three main markets with the largest and busiest known locally as the General Market. It is open from 10:00-16:00, Monday to Saturday and anything you want you can find here! Just off Trinity Street, a weekly market is held in All Saint's Garden that offers its guests a large offering of arts and crafts. Another similar market is held every Sunday in the same location as the General Market.

Whatever you're shopping for; the shopping mecca of Cambridge is sure to give you whatever you need and in such beautiful surroundings it is arguably the best place to shop in the UK.
