Celebrating Our Mothers

There are now 60% of women with a child aged five or under who are in full-time employment. Working mums are therefore doing two jobs, made even harder when their children are below school age.
Why should a woman sacrifice her own career when she wants to have a child? Most mums are real-life superwomen and successfully manage to juggle their work around caring for their children. One in 10 of 1,200 women questioned by BT, wanted to have their own business and 15% of women had already started their own.
But this means they are under increasing levels of stress. British-based transport firm recently carried out a survey of 2,000 working mothers and found that daily stress levels peak at 8.25 am during the school run. A further 38% of those asked said making sure their children had finished their homework, had the proper PE kit and enough lunch money for the next day was also a time when anxiety levels soared.
Even if mothers want to stay at home with their young children they don''t always have a choice. Now, this problem is worse than ever. Because of the recession, stay at home mums have had to leap back ...
... into the struggling job market and take on part time work possibly to supplement a partner''s reduced income.
So Mum''s, what can we do to help? A good place to start is Mothers'' Day which this year falls on 14th March. Make this year extra special as over the past year parents have had to work a lot harder than usual to make ends meet.
Topping the list of presents should be Mothers'' Day flowers. This Mothers'' Day however, don''t just pop into the supermarket and get the first bunch you see. Instead splash out on a spring time selection of roses, carnations and lilies.
DIY presents will be popular this year no doubt, as everyone is feeling the financial pinch of the economic crisis. So instead of going out for a meal, cook a particularly sumptuous and extravagant dinner at home.
Encourage young children to make their own cards instead of picking out a box of chocolates. A good, easy and safe idea for slightly older children is breakfast in bed combined with a clean and tidy house for mum to wake up to. The simplest things are usually the best. But use Mothers'' Day as an example of what can be done every week to help out both our working, and stay at home mums.
