How To Win An Interview-00-5286

Whether it's for a promotion or a job opening, you cannot neglect the preparation for an interview. Here are a few basic tips on how to nail an interview. The sections are divided before, during and after the interview.
Before the Interview
Observe Time - The rule is always be prompt. Arrive 15 minutes ahead of the interview. Arriving early gives you the ff. favors:
o You are relaxed
o You have time to composed yourself
o You have time to organize your thoughts
o Since you arrived earlier, you have the possibility of being interviewed first among other applicants and you are spared from prolonging your agony. note: the longer your turn is for the interview, the more nervous you become.
o Arriving early leaves good impression for the interviewer
Review Notes - Browse again your application form, resume and any other documents you have submitted. Remember that most of the questions will be based from the papers you submitted. You don't want to give mismatched answers, do you?
Know the company - Do ...
... a little background of the company. Know its objectives and goals. In this manner, you have something to say when asked what you can contribute for the company to achieve its goals.
Consider your attire - Jeans and shirts are always NO for interviews, corporate and business attire, YES. For ladies, you may choose slacks and a three-fourths blouse. If you go for skirts, make sure it's within knee level and not very above the knee, that when you sit, your undergarment peeps through. Always dress appropriately. You can also accessorize for that added sophisticated look but please, all in moderation. Do not use chunky and flashy accessories. You should also put on light makeup. Meanwhile, men can opt for pants paired with long sleeves and a tie. Also, opt for soft hues over bright colors. Beige, white, and soft colors are ideal. Black and white is always safe.
During the Interview
Shut up your phone - First and foremost, before entering the room, ensure you set your phone to silent mode, or better, turn it off. Nothing can be horrifying during an interview that stunning your interviewer with that loud, annoying phone of yours constantly ringing. It's very unprofessional and of course, disgusting.
Straight to the Point - Answer directly what have been asked. The key is K.I.S.S. Keep it Short and Simple. Do not elaborate unless you are asked to.
Eye Contact - Look straight into the eyes of the interviewer. It gives the impression that you are prepared, honest with your answers and is confident. If it is a panel interview, direct your answer to the interviewer who throws the question but don't neglect the other interviewers. Glance at them once in a while.
Do away with mannerisms and habits - don't keep on swiveling the chair you are seating on, don't play with your hair and pen, no twitching of fingers, no unnecessary and frequent clearing of throat, and moving of feet. Not only this is annoying for the interviewer, but it shows that you are nervous and uneasy
Be Honest - Nothing beats honesty. Don't fabricate facts just to impress the interviewer.
Keep a handy notes - This is often overlooked by interviewees. Jotting down notes gives the impression that you're serious with getting the job. Take down notes that are important.
After the Interview
Thank the interviewer - Whether the interview went off well or not, thank the interviewer and be polite.
Send a thank you note - Sending a simple hand written thank you note is appreciated more than email/mobile messages.
Do follow-up - Follow up the status of your application at the time specified by the interviewer. This reinforces your chance of getting the job and of course, it spares you from just waiting for nothing (if you were not chosen for the job). Knowing the results of your application the soonest possible time saves you time and helps you what step to do next.
So there you go, just stick to these basics, and sure you'll get the edge of nailing that interview!
