Some people consider it improper to have a second-baby shower, since it was unlikely that mom and dad would need very much, especially the big-ticket items. You might want to arrange for someone to clean house while mom and baby are still in the hospital, helping out with childcare or as a helper on errands or grocery day, or schedule transportation for the older child's school and sports activities, especially the first week or so. The finished calendar, with names and phone numbers in case of adjustments, can be presented to mom at the shower. In some cases, both mom and baby are set, and don't need anything new. You might choose to simply have a party, inviting the mom's closest friends and family.

Optionally, guests can bring unwrapped baby gifts and these can be donated to a women’s charity or other organization that can put them to good use. Another idea for a second-baby shower is to hold a "freezer" party, with guests bringing food that can go in the freezer or else be easily stored. This will definitely help out mom in the last days before her due date and also those following the birth. It is important to hold this shower quite close to the due date, of course, and to be sure that the mom has enough freezer or storage space to make it work.

Lastly, if the new baby is what is often known as a caboose baby (several years younger than the next brother or sister), you can still hold a full baby shower. Many times, in situations like this, the parents will no longer have those "big" items anymore, or they might not meet current safety standards.

Keep in mind that the main reason you are there, no matter what kind or how many gifts are given, is to celebrate the upcoming birth and show the mom your support.
