Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was founded by Bharat Ratna Shri Madan Mohan Malviya in the year 1916. BHU was earlier known as Central Hindu College. BHU is located in the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Research work is an important part of any academic field. Without the research work, there cannot be any progress in the niche area. Not only in the science and technology stream but the social sciences also the research and development are essential to bring changes in the existing pattern and to look it in a progressive manner. To do research and development in the field of social sciences a proper research methodology taking into account the subjective nature of the subject. The experts can only teach the actual way to do research in a professional manner.

Research methodology is a crucial component of any research endeavour which involves the process used to collect data and information and to make a systematic plan so that the research work can come to a productive conclusion. ... Research Methodology:

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) organized a training course on Research Methodology in Social Science in association with Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). The training session was organised in recognition to the need for upgrading the research skills of research scholars in the field of social sciences. The training involved a theoretical and practical blend of social science philosophies. The training session also focused on the dimensions of rational thinking involved in identifying the research problem, selection of research methods, proposal writing, report writing, literature review, etc.

Objectives of Training:

The purpose of the training course was to provide the training in defining the research problem, formulation of the hypothesis, data collection methods, framing research questions, data analysis techniques, exploring data sources and various aspects related to reporting writing. To make them analyse the quantitative and qualitative data, essential analytical tools have been taught to the participants.
The training also acknowledge the students about various aspects like-
1) Telling the participants about the role of research in social sciences in the developing societies.
2) To equip the participants with the latest methods of data analysis and formulations.
3) To teach them to give the final shape of the research in the form of reports and thesis.

The content of the Course:

The training programme involved various strategies to educate the participants about different dimensions of research which included the following materials-

1) Types of research and research designs
2) Sampling and Statistical Tools
3) Various methods of Qualitative Research
4) Research Methodology, Theoretical Issues and Different Schools
5) Types of Data, Methods and Tools of Data Collection
6) Data analysis and Statistical Techniques using SPSS package
7) Writing Report, Research Paper and Monograph

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a forerunner at the national and international levels in the areas of science, social science, technology, and medicine. Apart from the class teachings it also emphasizes on the practical learning and research aspects of the subjects.
