Statistics have proven that there are hundreds of motor vehicle accidents in South Africa every day. These accidents range from the minor to the major, with the vehicles involved either being in need of repairs or complete replacement. Only a small percentage of vehicles on the roads are actually insured, and this is a danger for many people. Nowadays, with the high road death toll, it can seem a big relief if your accident is minor and you make it out relatively unharmed and alive. This relief is short lived until you get the bill for the tow truck and the repairs to your vehicle.

It is not unbelievable to hear about the cost of a few minor scratches and dents to rise into thousands and thousands, even on a simple vehicle. This goes without saying the cost of repair to a luxury vehicle! If you did not have car insurance, you would have to save money for months and months and even take out a personal loan in order to pay for the repairs, as this is usually not the kind of money one has lying around spare. Even if you put the repair costs on your credit card, if that were possible, you would find that it is a lot of money ...
... to lose out on.

It is not a far stretch to say that it is very unwise to drive a motor vehicle without the proper insurance coverage. A lot of people feel that a car insurance premium is too expensive to pay every month, and oftentimes, people feel that they will never be involved in a car accident, for whatever reason. Even if one does realize they have the risk of being involved in an accident, they feel that they will worry about that when the time comes. This is silly, as you would only be helping your future self should you have an accident.

You have to also think of the situation if you were to be involved in an accident with someone who does not have car insurance. What if the person does not have money to pay for the repairs to your vehicle? Will you have the time and finances to go through the ensuing lawsuits to get them to somehow pay? Furthermore, how will YOU pay for the repairs if nothing comes of your recovery efforts? These are all important facts for you to consider.

Another thought for you to contemplate, is the effects of a motor vehicle accident. They can be very traumatic. If someone is injured, or, Heaven forbid, someone passes away as a result of the accident, the survivors will have a very hard time coping with this. The added stress of the financial burden of an accident is awful to have to deal with at that time.

In conclusion, it is always better to be safe rather than sorry. You may have to separate yourself from hard earned money every month for your premium, but it is far less in comparison to the money you will have to separate yourself from if you have an accident. If the accident is your fault and you do not have insurance you will then have to worry about paying for repairs to your vehicle as well as the other driver's vehicle.
