India ranks on top in the list of growing media markets in the world. It is not only newspapers as other media forms like radio, television channels and internet are also growing at a fast pace .The first ever attempt to start a newspaper was made in the year 1776 in Calcutta. However, Evidence supports that the use of the concept of mass duplication in India dates way back to the Indus Valley Civilization era. Press and Politics information media in print popularly known as press, which is generally credited to be the tool of portraying the public opinion and spreading awareness. Over the period of time, journalism in India started moulding into the high-powered career stream it has become today. This article throws some light on the factors which led to this upsurge in this field.

Journalism in its limited sense can be defined as reporting incidents and dissemination of information within general populous. When observed closely, the aforementioned factors further split into different aspects which lead to the boom of the journalism industry altogether. Lets take a look!

A. Increased literacy rate: In last 3-4 decades, its apparent that there has been a steady rise in the literacy rates in all the states of India. A greater number of people are being initiated into the world of reading and writing.

B. Growth of the Middle class: The nature of the living standards of the middle class greatly impacts the trends in the country. When a household makes economic and educational progress, they consider it as a status symbol to subscribe to a newspaper, be informed of news and involved in the political landscape of the country.

C. Technological advancement: With time, technology has improved by tenfold making it easier for newspapers, media channels and other print media to start new editions. This has led to an expansion of the reach of mass-media productions into small cities and villages.

D. Bright Prospects: The field of Journalism is now looked as a professional stream which can offer a number of opportunities for career growth. Print media, News channels, Radio shows and number of such other channels have troves of growth prospects for the ambitious ones.

The field of journalism has definitely evolved since its inception in the country. A modern generation of journalists is rising in the country. With course like Bachelors in Journalism Arts and masters in Journalism, the aspiring journalists have the scope to achieve their dreams in the news media.
