Scabies Rash On Dogs-00-5235
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by the underlying mites. These mites live a lifecycle of 21 days and it would spread to the other parts of the body, if left untreated. These mites have a longer life cycle when they reside on the dog's body as a host. Once they are transferred to the human host, they would have a shorter life span and would die immediately. More often than not, humans happen to be the accidental hosts of the mites.
Mites' infestation is spread from one host to another through direct skin contact. These mites cause scabies on dogs and hence they must be removed, so as to treat the dogs from the condition. To begin with, it has to be remembered that the dog's environment must be kept clean at all times.
Symptoms of scabies on dogs first appear on the ears, elbows, chest and the genital area. Signs also include red bumps on the skin, known as the emulsions, which are itchy and painful. The bumps can harden on the skin and would also become crusty if the dog scratches the skin. In a few severe cases, the dog might also become thin and unhealthy. Moreover, Incognito Scabies is a condition which might mislead the diagnosis done through scrapping the skin. The best way to treat scabies on dogs is to perform the lime-sulphur dip and wash the dog with miticide shampoo. There are chances that the prescribed drugs might have some side effects on the dogs.
