Making Your Own Romantic Gifts

You can start by making your own custom card, using construction paper and a marker, but if you want to get really crafty you can buy a set of craft scissors and use cutouts with different patterns. Next, use a fine tipped craft pen to write a special message or poem inside of the card. You could finish it off with a special picture or draw one of your own (for those of you that are artistic).
You could also grab a recipe and create a custom dessert or sweet treat, which will not only make the home smell lovely, but is much cheaper and tastier than something you can buy from a store. You can do the same with dinner and instead of going out someplace fancy you can make your spouse’s favorite meal at home.
Some other homemade presents that are hits in the home are:
• Custom crafted picture frames
• Candle bouquets
• A custom video burned onto DVD, either as a collage of photos or of you telling your loved one how much you care for them
• Potpourri infused pillows or sachets
• A recorded message burned to CD and popped in your spouse’s car CD player before ...
... they go to work
• A photo collage
• Custom stuffed animal or pillow
• Homemade birdhouse or bird feeder
If you have children, then recruit your kids to help you come up with something special. Allow them to contribute or create something of their own. If you are celebrating mother’s day, then do a video interview of your children and ask them how much they love mommy and add your own message at the end. Decorate the house with streamers and balloons and surprise them when they come home from work. Place a homemade sign outside or write a special message on their bathroom mirror.
Building and creating your own presents is not only cheaper, but is also much more fun. In fact, one could argue that a homemade gift is better than anything you can buy at a store. You don’t’ have to make things from scratch every year, but switching it up and getting crafty from time to time is a great way to keep your spouse on his or her toes.
This is only just a short list of some quick and easy ideas, but really you are only limited by your imagination. If you need help coming up with ideas, ask their family for some ideas. The more suggestions you get the better. Even if you don’t spend a lot of money making something, it is the thought that will impress them more than the dollar value.
