The red itchy rash is one of the initial symptoms of scabies. Just like all the other symptoms of scabies, the rash is caused due to the allergic reactions to the toxins secreted by the parasitic mites. The main agents that produce rash are the eggs laid by the underlying parasites as well as their faecal matter. Along with the rash, the sufferers would also experience severe itch, scaling or blistering of the skin and discomfort.

In a majority of cases, the scabies rash appears similar to the manifestations of a lot of other skin diseases, including dermatitis, eczema, and chicken pox. When there are no other relevant signs of mite infestation, the rash could also lead to other conditions and would prevent the doctors from an accurate diagnosis. This also delays the right treatment forms. The ambivalent nature of the scabies rash is one of the main reasons of delayed medical intervention. In a few cases, the scabies may perhaps have already developed crusting and scaling of the skin as well as bacterial infections prior to the treatment.

Scabies rash affects fingers, toes, hands, wrists, elbows, feet, armpits, ...
... ankles, lower abdomen, buttocks, chest and knees. The rash would rarely occur on the most exposed parts such as the face or the neck. In a few severe cases, the scabies rash can also occur on the scalp, especially amongst people with an impaired immunity system. Scabies rash is usually more severe in infants and young children, often accompanied by pruritus and itching.
