You crossed the street and took on a cab on your way to the office. On weekdays, you leisurely strolled down the mall and feasted on bargain sales. Hungry, you proceeded to the nearest restaurant and indulged yourself on food. Exhausted, you decided to park a cab to take you home and enjoy the comfort of it. This is your usual routine everyday. But while actually doing this, have you thought for a while who are the people behind every street you just crossed, a bus you have ridden to, the provider of food you are feasting on, and most especially, have you thought for a while and thanked the people for your existence? The succeeding sections will help you appreciate persons whom you have taken for granted, unconsciously or not.

Whenever you cross the street, you see traffic enforcers patiently leading vehicles in four directions—North, East, West, South; signaling motorists to stop and motioning pedestrians to cross about. And there you go, you were able to safely cross the street and comfortably seated on the bus because the street was well regulated by our very loyal traffic authorities. Under the scorching ...
... sun and humid weather, they are always available to give you a smooth, crossing road. Do you notice them?

The bus and jeepney drivers, who work for a non-stop 12 hour drive, who, just like traffic aides, beat the heat of the sun and brave the storms just to take you to your destination. Do you even care?

You alighted from the bus and your utility boy is waiting for you to help you carry your things. You entered your room spic and span because he ensured everything is tidy before you arrive—neatly piled docket book, dust-free monitor, clutter-free desk and sparkling coffee cups. Do you appreciate?

After work, you decided to hit the department store for some shoe hunting. The sales lady promptly attended to your queries. Do you appreciate the effort-- She, running to and from the stock room because you're unsure whether to buy a wedge or a pair of boots? She willingly assists you in trying every shoe possible because nothing seemed to fit your extra large feet. Do you recognize the effort?

While splurging on the shredded shrimps, spicy tuna and curried crabs, did you ever wonder for even a moment that if it's not for the ever hardworking fishermen, there will be no sea foods on your table? (Not to mention that while you were spending a hundred bucks for a plate of crabs, these fishermen have to spend hours or even days in the dark sea just to earn a hundred).

And finally when you get home, you raced to your bedroom, turned your iPod on, and lift your feet for a relaxed moment. The door opens with your mother carrying a tray of freshly baked cake and iced tea for your snacks, while giving you a massage to soothe your aching head. Not too soon, your father called up because dinner is ready. On the table was your favorite dish. Do you appreciate? Do you thank your parents?

How many of us do appreciate little things? How many of us recognized people's efforts, —traffic aides, janitors, sales ladies, fishermen, bus drivers...parents

I think it is time that we learn to appreciate things, trivial as they can be. Let's start appreciating people who make life safe and protected, easy and convenient, & fun and lovingfor us.
