The longer an addiction lasts, the more stress and strain it puts on an individual. There are a number of physical and psychological effects of addiction that can easily turn a healthy person into a frail shadow of their former self.

The physical effects of drug addiction include:

- One can even get severe hallucinations which can disrupt the working of the brain and create certain paranoia in the user.

- The drug abuser may have constant mood disturbances. The person may become angry over minor issues or show signs of aggressive behavior towards friends and family members.

- Regular intake of drugs can produce feelings of restlessness and insomnia. Moreover, long-term psychological effects can result in reduced oxygen flow to the brain, which can cause permanent brain damage or even result in a coma.
