Oakland, a major West Coast Port city is located 8 miles east of the town of San Francisco and is the

eighth largest city in US state of California. Earlier the city of Oakland was held by the Peralta family but

in 1852 it was incorporated by the California legislature. Since two thirds of Oakland lies in the flat

plains of the San Francisco Bay, with one-third rising into the foothills and hills of the East Bay

range, the Oaklanders refer their city's terrain as the 'flat lands' and the 'hills'.

Oakland has fought with many challenges including widespread poverty, high

unemployment, serious quakes and an enlarging rate of crime. Oakland

suffered many deaths and wounds in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Oakland has

solidly been listed as one of the most hazardous cities in the U. S.

Oakland has a Mayor-Council government. It is home to several major

corporations including Kaiser Permanente and Clorox, as well as company HQ for

across the nation enterprises like Preyer's Cost and world

markets. It's also the home to Rocky Road ice-cream and the MaiTai cocktail. Some major recreational attractions

include the Fox Theater, The Oakland Zoo, the Oakland Museum of California, the paramount Theater, Lake Meritt, Jack

London Square, the Oakland Estuary, The Chabot Space and Science Center, the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, the East Bay Regional

Park District and Chinatown. One of Oakland's most distinguished features is Lake Meritt, the biggest urban salt water lake

in the united states. Technically, Lake Meritt is an estuary of San Francisco Bay. Oakland Unified school District

operates most public faculties in Oakland. The three biggest public high schools in

Oakland are Oakland highschool, Oakland Technical school and Skyline highschool. Oakland is also famous for its international airports. The 3

major airports utilized by the residents of Oakland are : Oakland international air

field, San Francisco global airfield and San Jose international airfield.

The port of Oakland is one of the largest seaports on San Francisco Bay and serves as the 4th busiest container

port in the U. S. . There are numerous languages spoken in Oakland due to

which it's the 2nd most ethnically various town in the US.

Oakland has witnessed an outstanding increase in its land values due to its central physical

location, warm weather and hillside areas providing a

beautiful view of San Francisco and the Bay. This has led an attractive alternative option to the high hires and home prices in nearby San Francisco. Due to its size, Oakland

also offers a substantial number of shopping districts and cafes representing American

and international cuisines. Altogether Oakland is a beautiful place to live in with culture everywhere, friendly

folk, wonderful music, and tons of cool places to explore. Aside from the issues of misery and raised rate of violent crime, its architectural parks,

eateries, libraries airports and neighborhoods make it an ideal
