To boost athletic performance many aspiring athletes usually take performance-enhancing drugs. Drugs such as steroids, growth hormones and stimulants help to achieve short-term physical goals such as building muscles, gaining strength and weight management. These drugs may also have serious side effects like a liver problem, emotional instability, and severe dehydration.

Nicotine is a substance which is abused by many of the athletes by chewing. Another form of taking nicotine is by smoking cigarettes. Whether the nicotine gets into the body through the bloodstream by chewing or smoking, it is harmful.

Certain performance-enhancing drugs promote the building of muscles. However, they can harm the overall growth and development of the body, particularly when used by aspiring athletes. These drugs can even cause undesirable physical changes in the body. Taking a higher dose of steroids and drugs can cause men to develop shrunken testicles, prominent breasts, reduced sperm count and even result in baldness, while women athletes may develop an oddly deep voice, excess body hair and irregularities in the menstrual ...
... cycle.

Another drug which some athletes prefer is narcotics. It has medical uses that include relieving severe pain and inducing sleep. However, narcotic overdose can lead to respiratory depression and even death. The misuse of narcotics can pose ethical questions against the athlete as it is harmful to the health and can affect the performance of the athlete.

Moreover, marijuana is also induced by some athletes to enhance the performance. Although, marijuana is illegal in few countries, however, it is still available through the prescription of a doctor in several dispensaries. Aspiring athletes take help of marijuana to boost their performance and concentration. However, a few of them start taking it regularly. This not only leads to addiction but also hinder the performance. Therefore, rehab for Detox San Jose provides therapy to help that the aspiring athletes get back to their normal life.

Knowing the fact that “excess of everything is bad”; few athletes flaunt the norms to induce certain performance-enhancing drugs. Taken under proper prescription, these drugs are not harmful to the body. However, a proper check has to be kept by the trainers to ensure that the aspiring athletes are not taking help of performance-enhancing drugs.
