The unquoted phrase of a Christian wedding that says something new, something old, something borrowed and something blue has deep hidden meanings beneath it. The sixpence coin made up of silver indicates the wedding ceremony in which the bride wears something borrowed, something new, something old and something blue. Many people state that this phrase commenced from the era of queen victoria.
Each of the enlisted items in this phrase represents a token of good luck for the bride. If she ably carries all of these, then her wedding is definitely going to be a perfected one.
The phrase “something old” tends to symbolize the eternal relationship of the bride with her family and her past.
“Something new” pertains to hopefulness and optimism that the bride is going to get a jovial and happy life ahead
“Something borrowed” means that the fate and luck of the old friends are going to get carried over the bride. The borrowed item also indicated that the bride can always rely upon old kith and kin.
“Something blue” represents love, fidelity, and modesty. Christianity has always dressed the VirginMary in blue. In the Christian faith, Blue symbolizes purity. In earlier centuries, blue used to be the most popular color for the wedding gowns.

The silver sixpences that are attached with the bride`s footwear act as the symbol of financial security and wealth. It dates back to those Scottish rituals when grooms used to set silver coins underneath their shoes for achieving good lucks. It is said that the sixpence must be specifically placed beneath the left foot. Currently, silver pennies are being substituted with copper. However, some of the companies have now begun to float sixpences as the wedding keepsakes.

The bouquet toss is kept because the bride is believed to be very lucky on her wedding day. Guests used to tear away slight pieces of bride`s gown for sharing her good luck. The tradition of bride tossing the bouquet offers good luck souvenir along with bothering the guests from tearing bride`s dress.
