Does Google Advertisement Work?

There is a lot of hype surrounding Google Advertisement through AdWords, but does their program live up to it all? This is a really important question to answer, as Google clearly leads all online internet advertising brands. Google's PPC (Pay per Click) program works immediately to produce results that organic SEO can take months to achieve. However, in assessing Adwords, you must first define success. Is Adwords your entire online marketing approach or is it part of a broader, more diversified set of strategies to promote your online business? Is it a short, intermediate or long term strategy? How many clicks does it take to make a sale? What is your net profit / sale? Is it worth it? Clearly you have to answer these questions, be conservative and really do the math so that you know what success really looks like.

To be clear, Adwords offers a great deal to the online marketer:

1. It is a 'suit to fit' advertising model because you control your own budget and can adapt the strategy to fit that budget.
2. It is targeted on the searcher through equally targeted keywords / phrases. Your ad shows ...
... up only when your keyword(s) are searched; obviously selecting the correct keywords is huge here.
3. Instantaneous alterability - the ads can be altered or modified immediately; no need to wait for the next issue of a print ad, the online world makes ads as current or up-to-date as you need them to be.
4. Infinite tracking capability to monitor every dollar spent and knowing where the best performing dollars are going.
5. Control - you not only control which keywords your ads will be displayed for; you can control the daily budget, the time of day you want the ads to be available for display and the geographic location of those you wish to see your ad.

You may also have the option to pay per thousand impressions (CPM). Under this program, the advertiser pays every time the ad is displayed on the screen. Of course there are safeguards that protect you from paying for page reloads, errors or any other predefined event.

To reach a broader audience, advertisers can opt to place their ads in Google's extended network, which includes Ask.com and AOL. When the marketing campaign is wider, more people are reached. When the right audience is reached, advertisement is successful.

So does Google Advertisement work? Yes. However, this might get very expensive as there's fierce competition. You must seriously consider hiring an Internet Marketing Company or PPC Specialist to properly manage your Google Advertising. Without proper and experienced management you will flush a lot of your hard earned dollars down the toilet through making rookie mistakes, lack of tools to research keywords and related searcher behavior and many more pitfalls. The management fees charged amount to a small fraction of what you are likely to waste trying to setup and carefully manage a successful Google Adwords campaign.

As alluded to earlier, PPC should NOT be your sole online marketing tactic; rather it should be part of a well coordinated strategy that includes SEO and possibly SMO (Social Media Optimization) to drive organic traffic through highly visible rankings / listings in the organic or 'non-paid' section of the Google Search Pages. Since PPC has the advantage of immediate page 1 visibility on Google, this part of your online strategy should be emphasized in the first 6 months of your internet marketing endeavors. However, as your SEO results begin to take hold, you should seriously consider the gradual reduction in PPC budget to minimize your cost and improve your ROI. 85% of all Google Searches result in an organic click so ultimately this is where you want to be over the long term. So, PPC is your short to intermediate term bridge to long term results.
