An armor vest is one of the most important ingredients of your personal armor and is used for the protection against bullets, pellets and shrapnel. Armor and Kevlar vest are used almost all over the world among defense personnel, security forces, military and even ordinary citizens. In simple terms, an armor vest prevents the bullet or the pellets from hitting the body by withstanding the force and impact of the coming bullet. Mainly, they are of two types: soft armor vests and hard armor vests. Most armor vests are made with hard or laminated fabrics and fibers which make them so effective against bullets and explosives. In case of hard vests, there are extra coatings of metal plates or ceramic plates. The soft vests are effective against hand grenade pellets, small caliber handguns and shot guns. The latter is mainly effective against automatic rifles, high explosives and machine guns.

Hard armor vest is mainly worn by SWAT teams, tactical units, and combat forces and so on while soft vests are worn by defense personnel, security forces, policemen and so on. Officers of the bomb disposal squads wear advanced form of ...
... armor vests which have face protection masks and helmets. Protection is also offered in the rear part of the body for the protection of the spine.

The main function of an armor vest is that the hard material in it traps the coming bullets and withstands and absorbs the force of it. After the bullets hits the vest, it is deformed into a disc shape and as such is unable to pierce the body of the wearer. In fact the hard fiber of the jacket also effectively prevents against slash wounds from knives. More and more models are coming up to cater to the high demand.

A Kevlar vest is one of the popular forms of armor vests that are available in the market. Kevlar is mainly a trade mark of a type of strong yet light synthetic fiber vest which is very effective against bullets and pullets. It was first developed in the year 1965 by Stephanie Kwolek and was first used commercially in the first part of the 1970s. Since then, it has become of the popular forms of body armor vest and is preferred by defense and security forces all over the world. In fact research has shown that Kevlar fabric is almost five times stronger than steel in terms of equal weight. Mainly the Kevlar fabric is available in three different types namely Kevlar, Kevlar 49 and Kevlar 29. These types have different features and characteristics.

Due to its high effectiveness, Kevlar vest is preferred almost all over the world. A number of advanced personal armor equipments are made from Kevlar fabric. They include vests, helmets, and ballistic face masks and so on. Some of the well known personal armors like PASGT vests and helmets have Kevlar fabric as the key ingredient in them. In fact, apart from prevention against bullets and pellets, Kevlar vests are also well effective against slash and cut attacks. Bomb disposal squad personal also make use of these types of vests as they do not catch fire easily. Apart from the military, Kevlar vest is also popular among police officers, combat forces, SWAT teams and tactical units. At times, even ordinary people are seen to wear Kevlar vests.
