Tips To Maintain Your Exhaust Fans In The Kitchen

Purchasing an exhaust fan is as good as maintaining it. Amongst the necessities in your kitchen, the exhaust fan is one of the most crucial elements. Not only does it ensure that the room is smoke-free, but also allows proper ventilation to ensure that it is free from any smells.
However, exhaust fans are normally ignored. Over time, they will collect dirt and grime on the blades, especially grease and oils vapours, which will be deposited on the blades. A buildup of these deposits will hamper the functionality of the exhaust fan. Additionally, it will also hamper the hygiene of the kitchen.
But like any other equipment, it needs to be properly maintained so as to ensure that it works optimally. Ideally, you can contact a cleaning agency to get it done for you, or you can take the necessary steps to clean it yourself. Given below are a few tips you can consider to clean your exhaust fan with ease:
• Protect yourself before you begin cleaning: Before you start the cleaning process, the first thing you need to do is ensure that you are well protected. For one, exhaust fans ...
... are mostly located at a great height. So when accessing it, you need to ensure that you have the necessary safety precautions in place before you do so. Don’t forget, it is an electrical equipment, so you will need to disconnect all plugs and wires before you remove it. As a safety precaution, turn of the current to the kitchen before you proceed.
• Clean the mesh: Most of the exhaust fans come with a mesh. In this case, you will need to open the mesh and clean it first. If the mesh is made out of metal or plastic, you can clean it with a combination of baking soda and a bit of water. Soak it for an hour or a day if required and then scrub gently.
• Clean the blade: Most of the exhaust fans of the top quality have a high-grade material as blades. This is to combat the extensive amount of oil stains and grease that is deposited on the blades. Remove all the blades separately, and soak them in a mixture of baking soda, dish soap and water for an hour or half a day. Once soaked, remove them and scrub them gently.
• Regular cleaning with detergent solutions: The best way to maintain your exhaust fan is to subject it to regular cleaning. You can prepare the solution by mixing hot water and detergents for cleaning along with a bit of lemon juice, white vinegar or baking soda. Soak a cloth in this solution and wipe down the surface of the exhaust fan once or twice a week.
• After cleaning care: After you finished cleaning the equipment, keep them to dry under the fan or in the shade. Once they are completely dry, you can reassemble it and plug it in.
