I first set up a Hostgator account because I purchased some web directories from a seller in Pakistan! He recommended them and I'm glad that he did. It's very intuitive and easy to get started; the Cpanel makes navigating very straightforward.

My goals for utilizing Hostgator services were: to quickly perform maintenance on my directory web sites (e.g. www.urlicon.info) and other sites, automate site backups and setup email forwarders, etc.

These goals have been met and more. I am also a fan of Wordpress (useful for setting up new blogs) and Hostgator includes Fantastico Deluxe? which installs Wordpress? and has about a dozen other options for setting up sites (content management sites, templates, etc.) makes it very easy to set up a new site. The basics can be done in about ten minutes!

Plus, when a customer utilizes Fantastico and Wordpress to set up a blog the MySQL database is set up automatically in the background. This certainly saves a lot of time and effort and allows those of us with only rudimentary database knowledge to still feel the power of SQL databases!

... administrator would benefit from utilizing Hostgator's services because most major maintenance functions are streamlined and can be accomplished very quickly. Novice and intermediate level site owners would also benefit because it's super intuitive, fast to set up new sites and customers can add unlimited addon domains (which look/act a bit like subdomains, but appear to site visitors to be top level domains).

You'll need your own FTP software to move large numbers of files in some cases; I recommend one that offers a free trial, called Auto FTP Manager (ver. 4.3) via http://www.deskshare.com/download.aspx

I heartily recommend Hostgator services to anyone wanting to setup, utilize and sell over multiple web sites!
