Whether you are an employee, an owner or an administrator of a building, you have the responsibility to take care of it. More than being a physical structure, a building can represent your career, the company you work for, or a cause you may be living for.
Water damage to a building can be structurally damaging as well as a hamper to the businesses being conducted in it. Certain cases of water damage can prevent employees from working effectively. This ultimately represents higher costs and lower profits. Commercial building water damage is a serious matter and requires the cooperation of everyone in the building. Here are the typical roles of people in a commercial building and their responsibilities in dealing with structural problems such as water damage.
Employee
Employees are the end users of the building. They are those who to go the building every day for work, those who ride its elevators and use its rooms. As an employee of a building, it is your responsibility to:
- Immediately report any structural damages that you see to the administration. This can be unusually damp walls, ballooning ceilings ...
... and leaks. These can be signs of water damage.
- Provide suggestions to improve the maintenance of the building. You may not be an engineer or architect, but as a user, you have day-to-day involvement of the building and will know how to make it better.
Administrator
Administrators can be the people who are assigned to take care of the building. This can be janitors, operations officers and guards. It is your responsibility to:
- Conduct regular inspection of fixtures, bathrooms and passageways that could contribute to water damage.
- In certain cases, work with commercial building water damage companies to install new ventilation, upgrade existing systems and do repairs all meant to improve the structure of the building.
Owner
Owners can be the board of directors of the company owning the building, or even the landlords. As a building owner, you have direct control over the governance of the building. It is your responsibility to:
- Oversee employees and administrators to make sure that they abide by building safety procedures and do their part in caring for the building.
- Educate employees on how to take care of their offices and in emergency scenarios.
