Melbourne Bathroom Designers Weigh In On Vanities
While you might think that your vanity selection can be a bit of an afterthought, you don’t want to get it wrong. After all, as our bathroom design team noted, it can affect the rest of your bathroom if it’s placed awkwardly, or doesn’t have enough storage for your bathroom odds and ends. Here are our tips on bathroom vanity selection, to help your bathrooms designs come to life.
- Storage/Size
Think about your current vanity use; Is there enough space for everything? Do you need more? What do you use regularly, and what do you need around sometimes? These will all be important when you are deciding on the amount of storage you’ll need, and how large your vanity will be. We always recommend going with a little more storage than you’re projecting, ensuring that those odds and ends always have a home. Medicine cabinets can detract from the space, but built in wall cabinetry can be the perfect option for those daily necessities. The size will also need to be adjusted to your bathroom - there’s no good excuse for a large vanity in a small bathroom - and for the users. This is important, as the height of ...
... the vanity can affect your bathroom for the little things, like tooth-brushing.
- Placement
When you’re designing your bathroom, consider the placement of the vanity carefully. It shouldn’t interrupt the door, foot traffic, or any shower doors, and aim to make it as easy to clean and maintain as possible. Even considerations like windows and plumbing need to be recognised; the light from the window can make applying makeup or shaving a nightmare, and plumbing for the basin will need to be organised.
- Materials
Bathrooms are one of the most used rooms in the house, while being warm and humid - this can spell disaster for a material that hasn’t been designed for the job. Find a material which complements the rest of the room, while guaranteeing water resistance and durability.
