Dos And Don’ts Of A Thyroid Test

The thyroid gland sits on the lower part of the neck and secrets hormones. Thyroid produces two major hormones known as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These chemicals (hormones) are responsible for increasing the metabolic rate of the body. The thyroid test is done to detect problems of the thyroid glands. When a patient is suffering from hypothyroidism (a condition characterized by depression, increase in weight and decrease in energy level) or hyperthyroidism (characterized by anxiety, decrease in weight), then a thyroid test can be done in diagnostic centers in Bangalore.
Dos of thyroid tests:
1)A patient has to consult the doctor in a diagnostic center in Bangalore as it is important to disclose whether one is taking any medicines or not.
2)It is pertinent to tell the doctor whether one is pregnant because pregnancy also causes changes in the levels of hormones produced by the thyroid.
3)It is important to tell the doctor about the health history of your family.
4)A patient should consult a doctor when one feels lazy, unusual weight gain and lack of energy or decrease in weight ...
... and sleeplessness due to over anxiety.
Don’ts of a thyroid test
1)Though the doctors say that fasting is not mandatory for blood test for thyroid, research shows that thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is highest when testing is done after fasting. However, researchers concluded that hypothyroidism should not be diagnosed only on TSH level after fasting.
2)Doctors also say that the time of conducting the thyroid test does not matter, but if a patient is taking medication for triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), the timing of the blood test matters. A patient should be aware that T3 medication remains active in the body for hours and the effect of T4 medication lasts for a longer duration.
3)Studies also say that patients should not take any medicine on the day of the test. A patient should abstain from taking medicines until after tests are over.
When patients arrive in pathology labs in Bangalore a nurse or technician will collect the quantity of blood required for the test. A rubber band is tied around the upper part of the arm, and the vein is then punctuated with a needle to collect the blood sample for the test.
Diagnostic centers in Bangalore ensure that they are very thorough with the test, making sure that no discrepancies occur, which may create complications for the patient in the future.
