Preparing For Irs Audit
Not again, you just received a letter from the IRS indicating that you need to report for an audit! Now you need audit advice. The news that your are going to be audited makes you nervous, causes your blood pressure to rise, and results in a tremendous amount of stress. What now? How do you respond to this and should you be having a nervous breakdown now? While many people become frustrated as soon as they realize that government officials is going to be asking for their tax records and proof of income, the fact of the matter is that the best audit advice is to remain calm and gather all relevant information that you need carefully, accurately and without stressing out.
Before you put it to the side and decide to deal with it later, (it won’t go away all on it own) take the time to respond to the IRS notification. Give the IRS a call and find out what is going on. Find out when they want you to appear to see your paperwork. This simple phone call can help you find the right information before you react inappropriately. Remember, it’s not the fault of the IRS representative on the other side of the phone, that ...
... you are being audited. So, be courteous, professional, honest, and answer any questions completely and to the best of your ability.
Do you need some extra time to get your information in order? Do you need to dig out that box, organize it and hope that it's all there? Do you need more time to prepare for your audit, then make sure to ask for a postponement of the audit as soon as you are aware that more time is needed. This audit advice is very important: don’t wait until the last minute to do it either! You might regret waiting too late. Call the IRS audit representative up and ask for a short delay so that you can get properly prepared. Simple, done.
Lastly, it is important to realize that most audits are simply needed because of minor errors. You may have added or subtracted wrong. You may have placed the wrong information on the wrong line. These types of errors occurs all the time, more often then we realize. You need to be honest about what is happening with you, be truthful. So, you made a mistake, fix it. Fix it by demonstrating a good attitude towards the IRS auditor, remaining positive throughout the process, and provide all necessary information to help them complete their investigation.
