What method will suit your requirements depends largely on the nature of the product itself. Your shipment may require a flat bed, a temperature controlled unit, a straight truck, or a straight truck with a lift gate. It's vital to make sure you hire the right equipment. It's no use driving a huge 53 foot trailer into down-town Chicago at rush hour only to find out the trucks too large and you needed a straight truck for delivery. Mistakes like that can be very costly!

Not only do you need to know the requirements to ship your own product, but you also need to know your customers capabilities as well. Does your customer have a dock? Do they have a forklift? Are you delivering to a construction site? It pays to have the answer to these and many other questions. If you don't plan ahead, you may end up losing money, not making it!

A qualified professional freight broker Chicago, also known as a 3PL, can assist you in finding the right equipment and help you maintain a healthy profit margin. While they generally don't have their own equipment, they have established relationships with many types of carriers and can ...
... usually find what you're looking for. They act as the go between so that you can focus on your core business.
So, now that you know how to find the equipment you need, how do you know what that equipment really is? It's simple really. Let's look at a few examples.

In the down-towns of most major cities you will usually need to employ a straight truck for delivery of cheap freight. These vehicles generally have a 24 foot box attached to a cab. They are usually 98 inches wide and 102 inches tall. Your freight will need to be a little shorter than this to fit through the door though, as the opening will only accommodate 96 to 98 inches. While this limits the size of your shipment, it is often your only option. However, if you are unloading from the ground without the benefit of a dock, it may even be difficult with a straight truck.

When there is no dock and you need the product to be on the ground in order to unload, you may need to employ a straight truck with a lift gate for delivery. This is a specially modified unit, usually with a mechanical gate, that can be lowered to the ground in a controlled manor. The product is moved from the back of the trailer onto the lift gate, and the lift gate is then used to move the product to ground level for unloading. Generally a pallet jack is also needed to move the product to and from the lift gate. You should consider about all these while looking for freight quote Chicago.
