There Is A Heated Debate On Whether Over-alcohol Drinking Is Good For Heart Health
Ariola and her research team have carried out a follow-up survey in which more than 41,000 people of about 15600 men and 25800 women were invested for ten years. All the respondents were divided into six levels in accordance with the number of alcohol they drink. The lowest level is named never drinking, while the highest level is called overweight degree of alcohol, which means a daily intake of 90 grams of alcohol. The age of these respondents without prior history of heart disease is from 29 years to 69 years old. After the investigation completing, 481 men and 128 women were reported suffering from many types of heart disease. The researchers found that there is connection between daily alcohol consumption and heart disease incidence for men. the incidence of suffer from heart disease decreased by 35% for light drinking, for moderate drinking, heavy drinking and overweight degree of alcohol, the incidence was reduced more than 50% while the incidence reduced by 10 for people who once drinking. But this finding isn't suitable for women.
Many previous studies have shown that moderate alcohol consumption, which is a ...
... glass or two a day, is a healthy living habits, especially for protecting heart. "Our study has validated the correctness of previous studies," Ariola said. But she also noted that compared with the previous studies, there is a little different between them. "In order to identify the relation between alcohol consumption and heart disease, we distinguished people who used to drink alcohol from people who never drink alcohol", she said. Although the results show that drinking alcohol is good to health to some extent, Ariola still give her warning:" I do not suggest that people often drink alcohol, after all, more than 1.8 million people were died every year due to alcohol drinking, If you can't quit the habit of alcohol drinking, you should drink in moderation, pay attention to your healthy diet and keep exercise."
There are many doubts on Ariola's conclusion. Robert - Sutton, professor of surgery in the University of Liverpool is one of the opponents. He said:"The survey rely solely on their reports. Data showed that heavy drinking people are a lower risk of suffering from heart disease, but this is probably because they don't like to see a doctor, we don't find themselves suffering from heart disease."
