Our awards and trophies are a token of the hard work that we have poured in to win them. Hence we take utmost care of them and keep the shining and bright. However, if incase you are the proud owner of crystal trophies, then the care becomes more delicate. These trophies ooze a superior level of aesthetics owning to their smooth and clear surface capturing and refracting light, and easily become the natural focal point of the place where it they are placed or decorated. Its innate brilliance and beauty inadvertently draws attention to itself and becomes a topic of discussion with friends and families. However, it requires proper cleaning to retain its brilliance.

Basic dusting of crystal awards and trophies

Crystal is basically an elegant and a shining material which easily attracts dust. In case, it is kept for open display, it will catch dust much faster. If left unclean, it will gather a thicker layer of dust compared to other materials displayed in the same area. Thankfully, they can be easily cleaned. ... do not leave any marks on them as well. Hold the trophy gently in one hand and lightly brush the trophy from all sides. The dust will easily be brushed away, leaving it sparkling clean. Ensure that you vacuum the floor afterwards, so that the dust does not recirculate back and resettle on the trophy.

Alternately, it can be softly cleaned and wiped with a lint free microfiber cloth. Avoid the harsh dusting polishes as they may contain some harsh chemicals which may break down the surface of the crystal. Simply wiping with a damp or a dry cloth should do the job and leave it shining bright.

Deep cleaning of crystal award and trophies

Once in a while, the crystal awards must be deep cleaned. A deep cleaning atleast once every three months would leave its brilliance intact. This would require some cleaning solution Try to avoid the ‘multi-cleaner’ solution or any other general cleaner since they can damage the etching on the trophies. Today, there are a number of special glass cleaners or ammonia based cleaners available in the market. These are ideal for cleaning.

To clean, a small amount of the cleaner should be sprayed on the trophy and then the surface should be gently and carefully rubbed with the lint free microfiber cloth. Continue till every inch of the trophy has been cleaned. Finally, wipe again with dry, lint free soft cloth till all moisture have been wiped away and then place back the trophy.

Alternately, instead of cleaning solution, you can use diluted apple vinegar solution to clean the trophy in the exact manner. Vinegar is a wonderful ingredient to clean crystals. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with two parts clean water and fill the solution in the spray bottle. You have the cleaning solution ready. However, it must be followed by wiping with a damp cloth and then a dry cloth before displaying it back on the shelf.
