Scalp hygiene: Do not ignore your scalp. It is not important to just keep you hair healthy but also see to it that your scalp is clean. You must wash it twice in a week, do not wash every day, it will steal the natural moisture and shine from your mane. Remember, that your roots begin from your scalp. They must be freed from all the dirt and grime. Use shampoo to clean the scalp rather than use it on your mane. Begin shampooing from the scalp and do not directly apply it on your mane. While you rinse it away, you can see it running down your follicles thus cleaning away all the dirt.

Shampoos with strong chemicals: Make use of a mild shampoo with little or no use of chemicals or detergents. These can damage your follicles and make your follicles quite dry. It will steal the moisture from them.

Hair sprays: Hair sprays can be used occasionally. It consists of a lot of chemicals and hence must be used occasionally. It can make them dry if used more frequently.

Hair blower: These blowers are quite damaging and repeated exposure to hot waves will damage your follicles. They will not only lose its natural shine ...
... but makes them look dull and lifeless with repeated use.

Straightners: This again is a styling product which is used to obtain straight follicles. You can avoid using it repeatedly. If you use them, learn to take good care of your mane post exposing them to these heat waves.

Oily hair: Do not leave it unattended. Oily scalp as well as excessive dry scalp leads to dandruff and itchiness.

Getting Enough Minerals

Maintain a great diet for healthy hair. You should also take care in not going through crash diets because these could also affect the health of your hair. Silica is important to the strength of hair, and can stop hair breakage, unfortunately many of the foods you eat in the western world lack this mineral. Through food processing and chemical soil treatments, trace minerals are rare in our diets.

There are also certain minerals that can do a whole lot of good for your hair.  Iron, zinc and copper are known to provide the needed nutrients for your hair follicles, which could result in stronger hair growth.  Iron and zinc go hand in hand in helping you avoid hair loss. Copper and iron, on the other hand, are your helpers against the fading of your color pigmentation early.
