Some time back, there was news doing the rounds that CMS would release rules implementing the health information technology systems for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) act in December 2009, which should keep Medicare incentives to adopt EHR (electronic health records) on track for October 1, 2010 (hospitals) and January 1, 2011 (physicians). But there were many out there who were apprehensive about it.


Despite the skeptics out there, CMS stuck to what it said. The agency made it to its end-of-2009 deadline for a proposed rule implementing the HITECH Act. The 555-page document became online on December 30, last year, thus proving the skeptics wrong.
