Myopia is one of the most common eye disorders in the world. Patients who suffer Myopia or near-sightedness manage to focus on objects that are close to them without any difficulty; however they find it tough to focus on objects that are at a distance from them. This condition usually occurs when the eyeballs are not shaped properly and has a curvature which is higher than normal.
The number of people that suffer from myopia is high and although there is no cure or preventive method to avoid this condition, there are a number of ways to treat it.
Children as young as 3 are detected with myopia and are being treated. There is no age limit for this condition to occur, but there are ways to control it and prevent the condition from worsening.
A recent study shows that around 41 percent of the population suffers from a certain degree of myopia. While these numbers are shocking, it's not tough to deal with an eye condition such as myopia.
The symptoms for myopia are strong and easy to figure out. As parents, you need to keep a close watch on your child to see if he shows any signs of myopia. Children usually ...
... don't realize they have a problem with their eyes until late. Parents thus need to keep on checking their eyes and take them to an eye doctor on a regular basis. A regular eye check-up can help in preventing severe myopia cases and also helps to provide relief.
Children strain to read things they can't, so if you hear them talking about them not being able to read the blackboard, take them to an eye doctor immediately. Another common symptom in children is that they begin to squint every time they try to focus on distant objects. This too is a common sign that your child might be suffering from myopia.
There are a number of solutions for Myopia treatment. These include eye glasses, contact lenses and surgery. Children who suffer from Myopia should always use eye glasses. Although this might affect their looks, it is safer in comparison to contact lenses and they can use them comfortably. Although Myopia can be controlled and treated, it can’t be cured. As a child grows, they can opt in for contact lenses. There are various kinds of contact lenses available in the market these days that enable them to see clearly in a comfortable manner.
Once a child crosses the age of 18, they can opt in for the various surgery options that are available to treat myopia. These surgeries replace the lens in the eyes and help them to see clearly without the use of contact lenses or glasses. This surgery however does not last forever. People who suffer with myopia might need to use glasses or contact lenses a few years after the surgery.
Proper eye care and regular doctor visits can help control myopia. Do not ignore the signs that you might have a problem with your eyes, the sooner you detect it, the sooner you can begin treatment.
