Israel’s unique cuisine is a direct result of its diverse population. People from more than seventy different countries, many of which have different and unique foods and customs, currently live in Israel. When Israel first gained independence in 1948, it saw a massive influx of Eastern European Jews, many of whom were from countries such as Poland, Russian, and Hungary. They brought along with them traditional Jewish dishes that they had prepared in their native country. Add to that the influence of North African and Middle Eastern culture from the Palestinians in the area, and you had a recipe for the birth Israeli cuisine.

The types of cuisines themselves range from sophisticated French and Italian bistros, to casual American bars, to posh sushi restaurants, and much more. This is mainly due to Israel’s growing immigrant population which has given way to a fantastic multinational culinary food scene.
