It is common knowledge that the human body needs the whole spectrum of macronutrients in order to thrive. This is especially important as we fight every day stress or pursue a fitness goal, whether as athletes or amateurs. Being fit does not only rely on frequent exercise, but on a good, smart diet as well.

Health and stamina require that we eat protein, carbohydrates and fats, as well as minerals and vitamins from fresh fruit and greens. When we are snacking, however, we tend to ignore everything we have learned. We're drawn to those sugar-loaded, carb-filled, oily, greasy, additive-infused foods that are easy to pick in any store. They make us full for the time being and even satisfy our energy cravings, but the effect is short lived. In addition, it makes us fat. This is because the ingredients contained are of no use to the muscles. These only get stored as adipose layers when the body does not get to burn them for energy.

What you need in a fitness regimen is to tip the scales in favor of protein, be it from green or from animal sources and lower the carbs (not fully eliminate these). The more lean protein, ...
... the better. Of course there are countless modern solutions available, like whey extract in form of protein powder for example, which is combined with liquid and turned into a shake. However, you may still want to avoid those (and the additives they often contain) and get your protein from lean meat. It's not a good idea to have a steak or any other meaty dish which also packs loads of unhealthy fat. This will add unhealthy weight instead of lean muscle. The same way, you should avoid carb snacks because digestion turns these into sugars. If the sugars aren't being used immediately for energy production, then the body stores them as fat.

Eating too many carbs is counter-productive when you work on having a thinner, lean body. Rest assured that there are better option than the protein powders, though. There are certain low carb snacks which are made without the technology – only by using natural processing methods. The best known is beef jerky, which has a high content of protein, lean fibers all the way, an excellent taste and ensures proper nutrition on the go. If you have a gym schedule, this will prove very useful. The same goes for skinny salami and other such foods you can now find conveniently packed in a bag. You can find these in supermarkets as well as online. If you are looking for superior quality, look for a business that details its manufacturing process, as well as the sources of the meat being used.

Air dried, marinated meats (beef, pork, turkey) not only that taste good but are suitable as on-the-go snacks. These are easy to consume and will provide you with the much needed lean protein, without the carbs and the fat that would turn into adipose tissue. Once you try these, it will be hard to go back to anything you've previously had. Besides, the many flavors available (tomato, lime, mustard, honey, chilli etc.) ensure that you will never get bored of such snacks.
