The city is the capital of the state called West Bengal.
The true historical city of India is the City of Joy also called the city of palaces founded around 300 year back only but has created history more than any other city in the country. Noticeably Kolkata remained the capital of India in British time. The voice to liberate the country was raised for the first time here in Kolkata only.
